Weil Named Best Legal Advisor at the IJInvestor Awards 2020

Weil has won IJInvestor’s Best Legal Advisor Award for its global fundraising and transactional achievements in the energy and infrastructure space.

This award recognizes the most outstanding performance by a law firm advising clients involved in the deployment of capital by institutional investors in energy and infrastructure assets. The winner of this category also had to demonstrate work with a breath of clients across different geographies.

The judges – an independent panel of industry experts – chose Weil as the winner for the over-arching global prize with one saying: “Weil never ceases to impress in this sector from fundraising through to M&A, this firm is internationally impressive.” Another added: “It lends confidence to a process when you see Weil at the table. You know that you are dealing with first-rate players at the top of their game.”

James Sargent, partner in Weil’s Private Funds group, commented: “We are very proud to have received this recognition. We firmly believe that infrastructure as a stand-alone asset class will continue its rapid growth trajectory over the next decade, and have purpose built our transatlantic cross-practice infrastructure platform to service the increasingly complex and specialized fundraising, investment and financing requirements of infrastructure sponsors across the spectrum.”

During the review period, Weil advised on a number of standout mandates in the energy and infrastructure space including Brookfield Asset Management in connection with its $20 billion Infrastructure Fund IV fundraising; InfraRed Capital Partners on the sale of a majority of the InfraRed business to Sun Life Financial; Antin Infrastructure Partners on the sale of Kellas Midstream to a consortium of GIC and BlackRock; and APG Asset Management in its acquisition of a stake in Interparking S.A. from CPP Investments.

IJInvestor Awards is an awards program launched by IJGlobal. The IJInvestor Awards is specifically focused on the institutions and individuals that facilitate investments by institutional investors into operational infrastructure assets.
