International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP announced today that Christopher Machera has joined as a partner in the Firm’s Private Equity practice. He is based in Weil’s New York office.
“Chris started his career at Weil and we are delighted to welcome him back to the Firm,” said Weil Executive Partner Barry Wolf. “He will be a valuable and seamless addition to our Private Equity practice, given his experience and knowledge of the Firm, and a great asset to our more than 200 private equity clients.”
Mr. Machera has extensive experience representing private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies in various transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, minority investments, and general corporate governance matters. He was an associate in Weil’s New York office from 2005 to 2011, when he joined Goldman Sachs as Vice President and Associate General Counsel. In that role, he provided internal counseling to Goldman’s Merchant Banking Division and was responsible for overseeing legal aspects of numerous transactions and related issues affecting the Division and its portfolio companies. Most recently, he was a partner at Greenberg Traurig.
Douglas Warner, co-head of Weil’s global Private Equity practice, commented: “Many of us have worked with Chris, both as a former colleague at Weil and during his time at Goldman Sachs, and we all have a very high regard for his intelligence, drive and professionalism. We are delighted that he is returning to the Firm.”
Mr. Machera commented: “I am thrilled to be returning to Weil and to once again be part of the Firm’s specialized team of lawyers dedicated to private equity transactions. I look forward to working with my former colleagues to advise a wide range of private equity clients worldwide on their most important transactions.”
