Private Funds partner Stephanie Srulowitz has been named one of Law360’s 2018 “Rising Stars” for Asset Management in recognition of her work advising clients on numerous high-profile deals and fund closings in the past year.
Law360’s profile highlighted Ms. Srulowitz’s work co-leading the Weil team that advised American Securities LLC in the closing of its eighth private equity fund in February 2018 after it secured $7 billion. She described the deal as one of the most important of her career. “Having worked on a multibillion-dollar fund like that on a very aggressive time frame and negotiating with literally dozens of different counterparties, [while] keeping to a schedule and having everything happen on time and with results that the client is very pleased with — that is the largest and most satisfying transaction I’ve worked on,” she said. Ms. Srulowitz also advised American Securities LLC on its seventh fund, which closed at $5 billion in January 2015. In addition to her work for American Securities LLC, the article also highlights her representation of SoftBank Group Corp. in its $3.3 billion deal to acquire private equity firm Fortress Investment Group LLC.
With regard to what motivates her, Ms. Srulowitz explained that the diversity of her practice and the different opportunities it brings her, from the traditional to the innovative, is her biggest motivator. “I love that my practice is broad enough that I get to be both a subject matter expert, where I can really spend a lot of time devoted to the core parts of my field, but I also have a broad enough practice that I get to work on a lot of things that are very innovative,” she said.
When asked about why she chose to specialize in private funds, Ms. Srulowitz cited her time as a Summer Associate at Weil for helping her make that decision. “When I was a Summer Associate at Weil, I realized that there was something that really excited me about transactional and corporate work in general,” Ms. Srulowitz said. “I thought that tackling complicated contracts, thinking through the issues they raised, drafting solutions for clients — which is essentially drafting a set of rules that govern relationships between parties — was really challenging and interesting and got me excited.”
A team of Law360 editors selected the 2018 Rising Stars winners after reviewing more than 1,200 submissions. Ms. Srulowitz is among the attorneys under the age of 40 whose legal accomplishments belie their age.
